Online Degrees in India
Online degrees in India refer to academic programs delivered fully through digital platforms, allowing students to study remotely. These programs are regulated by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which ensures quality and recognition.
National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to provide flexible and multidisciplinary learning pathways.
You can pursue two degrees in the following ways:
Two Full-Time Physical Degrees
Both can be in regular offline mode, provided their class timings do not overlap.
One Physical + One Online/ODL
One degree in full-time regular mode and another via Open and Distance Learning (ODL) or Online mode.
Two Online or Two ODL Degrees
Both degrees can be pursued simultaneously through online or distance learning platforms.
Key Guidelines and Restrictions
- Institutional Recognition: Both degrees must be from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) recognized by the UGC, statutory councils, or the Government of India.
- Level of Study: You can pursue two degrees at the same level (e.g., two Bachelor’s or two Master’s) or a combination of a degree and a diploma.
- University Implementation: While the UGC has issued these central guidelines, individual universities must devise their own mechanisms and statutory approvals to allow their students to take advantage of this facility.
- Migration Certificates: The UGC has recently urged universities to stop insisting on migration or school-leaving certificates for the second degree, as this often creates a barrier for students trying to enroll in two programs.
